Housing For All RALLY TODAY, May 3rd at 6 pm! #homelessness #dcfy12

This was sent out over the Progress DC listserv today:

Come to the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW) THIS EVENING
(Tuesday, May 3rd) from 6 to 7 PM for the Housing For All Rally!

The proposed DC budget for 2012 includes major cuts to crucial affordable housing programs: the Local Rent Supplement Program, Housing First, and an $18 million cut to the Housing Production Trust Fund, on top of devastating cuts to homeless services. These cuts will make it even harder for families already struggling to find ormaintain affordable housing in DC. But the City Council ca n still restore the funding. We need to tell our elected officials that affordable housing is a priority for DC residents, and we won’t accept these cuts! Join The Continuum of Housing Campaign and housing allies from around the city on May 3 for the Housing For All Rally.

We need a big, vibrant presence to show the Council the importance of affordable housing and make sure they hear our call to restore funding to these vital programs. Please bring pillows, blankets, and signs to the rally as we ask our elected officials: Where will we sleep if affordable housing programs get cut?

The rally takes place on the same day as the Council’s budget hearings for housing related agencies: DC Housing Finance Agency, Department of Housing and Community Development, and DC Housing Authority.  The hearings start at 2 pm and are all in Room 412. To testify at one of the hearings, email DHubbard@DCCOUNCIL.US.

See you at the Wilson Building!
